If you are planning to travel to the Amalfi Coast, this means you are going to live intense emotions, visiting one of the most beautiful places in Italy.
In just one day, you can not appreciate how much beauty exists in this corner of paradise, so I recommend to put together at least three days to devote to this travel.
Where to Start the Tour
An excellent starting point is the city of Salerno. It must be said that the Coast tour can also be done by sea ferry from the port of Salerno, which leads to Amalfi (35 minutes) or Positano (70 minutes), but it’s better to travel by car, so you could enjoy all the amazing sights. You can also decide to rent a car with driver Sorrento, to relax and enjoy at most.
Just 5 km from Naples, you will find the first town of the Amalfi Coast: “Vietri sul Mare”. Here you will experience an unique panorama: blue and wide stretches of sea overlooking from the hanging rocks with large citrus and lemon groves that characterize this beautiful part of Italy.
After this town, there many other ones, like Maiori, Minori, Furore, Praiano: all characterized by tiled domes of the churches, with bright colors visible from the sea. Among these towns, you should pay a visit in particular to Ravello, inland from the coast; it offers a mystical view from the “Terrace of the Infinite” present in Villa Cimbrone, visited by tourists and now a luxury hotel.
Continuing the path you will arrive to Amalfi, one of the four Maritime Republics, and here you need to stop.
Leaving the car at the harbor, you can visit the paper museum where you can buy typographical representations and prints of the area.
Symbol of the city of Amalfi is the wonderful cathedral placed in the main square. A long staircase leads to the entrance of the church with one of the most beautiful cloisters that you can visit.
Walking down the main street of Amalfi you will reach the fountain where you can admire a very characteristic crib overflowed with water.
Leaving Amalfi, after 18 km you can reach the city of Positano, another pearl of the Amalfi Coast.
You may decide to leave the car along the road leading to the entrance of Positano, and then to walk all the streets until the small beach near the cathedral.
Along these streets, there are thousands of small shops where you can buy local handicrafts, like the beautiful ceramics or articles in linen, typical of the “Positano Vogue”. On the beach, there are several bars and restaurants where you can choose to taste the limoncello or refreshing lemon granita.
From Positano you then reach the beautiful town of Sorrento. There are plenty of places where you can stay, like this Sorrento accomodation.
From “Piazza Tasso”, you can easily reach the lookout at the side of the famous Hotel Vittoria in which stayed the famous singer Caruso. The restaurant is dedicated to him and it is a real gem of the city.
From the belvedere the view is breathtaking, and from the adjacent square to the viewpoint you can take a lift down to the port of Marina Piccola. From here, you can sail to the various islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida. You can even do Capri private excursions!
The visit of the Amalfi Coast can be done at any time of the year … of course in the summer, with the sun, everything looks nicer, but I can guarantee that even in winter the beauty of this place is immeasurable! A real corner of paradise.
